i just bought a new hard drive and have an older cd rom. i have each on seperate IDE cables, HD on IDE 1, cdrom on IDE 2. for some reason my BIOS wont detect them and i cant boot to or from anything.

Motherboard model and bios? Harddrive make and storage size?

motherboard: ecs k7s5a
hd: quantum fireball 30 gig

Check the harddrive on another machine to make sure it isn't at fault. Also check jumpers on the harddrive. Quantum is now Maxtor so you should be able to download the setup/diagnostic utility for the drive.
