Hi,
I have just had my Acer 4100 apart to fit a new hard drive and scanner card. All works fine except that there is no windows opening sound on start-up (the option is activated) and if I select the speaker from the system tray and adjust the volume, instead of getting a single beep, I get a rapid succession of beeps that wont stop. Like you get when a key is held down.
Could it be hardware of software related. It worked OK before.

Any help greatly appreciated
Rob

Well nobody responded to this but I will anyway since I have no other things to do. What you have is most likely an IRQ conflict between your scanner card and your sound card. Switching the IRQ address of either of the two will normally solve that problem. Depending on your OS this is done in many different ways but in Windows 95-ME its always found in the control panel under "system"

I have had the same thing, and would say that in the options features of the browser, (tools) advanced...there is a window that says to force off screen compositing. if this is checked, it may be causing you the chimes.
