My Hercules Muse XL worked fine with 98se, after upgrading to 2000pro it does not function. is there a such thing as a PCI driver? Its like 2000 can't read the PCI slot. The sound card is 2000 compliant.

Hercules Muse XL (CMI 8738 chip)if Hercules doesn't have a driver for win2k posted try the CMI drivers at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/edl8738.htm granted not all functions of the card may be enabled by the chip manufacturers driver but you should at least get your sound working again.

Windows 2000 likes to stack IRQ's for PCI devices (many devices on same IRQ)this may be a problem as well.
