This is my first attempt at building my own computer, I have a fair knowledge of hardware beforehand but I've run into a problem... I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with a FIC AD-11 motherboard. I've got all my major stuff installed and connected correctly, but I needed a video card, so my friend brought two over but he wasn't positive that either worked. One is PCI and one is AGP, I tried both, when I boot up all my fans come on, my power and floppy lights come on, my IDE light flashes once and the screen stays black. I'm currently looking for a video card that I know works, but my question is, is it possible that this is happening because I might have fried my processor?? Before I put my CPU fan on, my friend helping me plugged the power supply into the wall and let the comp run for about 5 seconds until he smelled something burning. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
