I have two printers and a scanner. The main printer is attached to the parallel port (LPT1, IRQ 5) of my Micron Pentium II. To accomodate the other printer (which must be on IRQ7) I installed a SIIG Cyber Parallel Dual PCI Board. Getting the PCI Port on IRQ 7 has always been a challenge whenever I had to reinstall OS, etc. I did have the following configuration set up and functioning successfully for two + years: Ports - COM 4 and 5 Cyber [LPT2] Printer [LPT1] SIIG Cyber Parallel PCI Board - IRQ7 i/o 0378 - 037F i/o 0778 - 077B but then had to reinstall Windows98 and now the settings are a mess: Ports - COM 2 and 4 Cyber Parallel PCI Cyber Parallel PCI Printer [LPT1] SIIG Cyber Parallel Dual PCI Board - IRQ7 i/o 1010 - 1017 i/o 1040 - 1043 i/o 1018 - 101F i/o 1044 - 1047 When I try to change the settings of the SIIG Cyber Parallel Dual PCI Board, I get: This resource setting cannot be modified. How do I get LPT2? How can I change the i/o settings of the PCI Parallel? TIA, Frank |

i do most of that in safe mode after i write down the settings windows has given it in normal mode, see if it'll take when i reboot back into normal mode after i change it. however, if i have a hard to configure system and have to reinstall, i first take everything but the memory, video card, cpu, mouse, keyboard, etc., off the system, and then reinstall. add hardware one by one while configuring each piece of hardware to what i want........if windows will do what i ask (demand) of it after i get the final bootup from the installation and the motherboard drivers. time consuming, but it's kinda fun when you get to play with mr. gate's brain child, hehehe. |
