What is the optimum size for a 19" monitor- I'm using 1024 x 768 and 256 colors. Some screens have the font too smalland or the docked toolbar is very small and I can barley make out the commands; Some screens have the right slide bar hidden. Is there a way to customize these settings?

When your at the desktop right click a blank spot somewhere and then left click properties.

Or access display properties through control panel.

Either way the settings and appearance menus will allow many options.

Under the appearance tab there is a box labeled item where you can change each individual item of the desktop or fonts.
