Hello, I'd like a recycle IBM 300GL bot from the cdrom. The setup menu doesn't give me any options. Could someone tell me how to do it anyway? |

Download Smart Boot Manager and install it to floppy per instructions on the website. If it detects your CD-ROM and allows you to boot from it then you may install it to your hard disk. Smart Boot Manager floppies are nice to have in your toolkit. Google will locate the site for you. |

Got a Dell GX260 with XP Pro that some student has somehow made to start with a password prompt BEFORE XP starts. It immediately comes up asking for a Password ; if it doesn't get a correct response (which it won't since no one knows the password) it shuts the computer down. So it never gets to the either the DOS prompt nor XP. THerefore I've tried a boot floppy, XP CDROM and neither will start the computer. It defaults to the Password startup. How do I circumvent this startup sequence? Is there a trick or someway to force the Dell into a DOS prompt or using XP without having to input a password?? Please HELP! Computer tech at a junior high. |

Clay, why did you post your question as a follow-up ? It's a new, unrelated question. In any event, you need to clear the bios passwords to be able to use the computer. Sorry, but I think is a bit above and beyond the scope of some 10 year old "junior high computer tech". Oh wait - did you mean you a GROWN-UP Computer Tech at a Junior High ? PLEASE, don't insult computer techs by putting yourself in their "class". Clear the bios, and it will reset the password. If you don't know how to do this, you are no computer tech. You might be stretching to call yourself a computer operator. |
