Hi Guys ! - My laptop 'locked-up' (uses Win 98SE), so switched OFF to get control. Have now destroyed HDD (horrible noises from it and a 00174 error (Config Error)on attempted boot).
Got a new HDD (Fujitsu MHD2032AT - 3.2GB - no OS loaded), but computer will not recognise drive. Tried the EASY SETUP (F1) option, but it's hopeless (tried arranging Boot order and during the TEST function, the HDD is 'Greyed-Out').
The laptop will NOT Boot up (although Orange light does come on for a bit), it simply instructs to put in the rescue disk (tried and failed !).
How do I get the thing to recognise my new HDD, so that I can load it with an OS ? - Thanx !

According to IBM it should accept up to a 4 gig hard drive with no problem. Have the Drive tested at a shop to make sure the drive is functional.

I'm having a similar problem. It's driving me nuts. Same number error 00174. Tried a boot in the a: but no real results, but I haven't changed the hard drive. Did you finally find that to be the source of the problem?
