Yes! I delete all contents, folders included, that are in the temp folder at least every other day. However, I am a bit of a fanatic about slop laying around. It gets dumped with a few others and always before a defrag. |

Trish is correct, I had a brain fart and was thinking swap file, instead of temp file. Generally, Windows uses the temp file to install stuff from as it unpacks it, for examply, when you download a executable file created from winzip and run it, it will unzip the file to temp then install it, the temp files are no longer needed. Many installations use the temp file the same way, but the Windows registery usually doesn't register any items in the temp file, so you should be fine to delete anything within it, just don't delete the temp folder itself. If you are really worried, dont empty your recycle bin for a few days, then you can restore whats in there, but with 512mb of files, the recycle bin may not want to hold it all. C'ya |

Also, are the majority of these files ones with a .tmp extension ? I would be curious as to why windows is leaving then in place so consistenly, the theory is that windows will delete temp files when ever it does a PROPER shut down or restart. It is not 100% good ( the tmp deletion ) but should NOT leave so much in the directory so consistenly. Does your machine lock up alot, resulting in a hard boot to cycle it ? |

this has been very informative, thankyou all very much. I've managed to get the folder down to 50Mb without system problems yet. My system locks up sometimes. Probably once a week. |
