Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me why these older philips cd roms I have, have a 16 pin connector instead of the "standard" 40 pin ide. Does it plug into the soundcard instead of the IDE slot? If so what type of card is recommended? Thanks...Craig

Older Creative CD-Roms run from soundblaster soundcards, their plugs look a lot like IDE connections, very similiar pin configurations, but are proprietary, hence you need a specific sound card to run them.
I would guess that this is the same for your Phillips... not a full answer to your question, however I hope this may help.
