installed a sony cdrw in mates comp a while ago . slaved the cdrom to the hd and had the cdrw as master on 2nd ide, comp started to boot windows 98 logo comes up then screen goes blank and there is aflashing cursor in top left hand corner, the comp stays like that...... so we tried making the cdrom the master on the 2nd ide and the cdrw the slave off hd and it did the same, the only way we got it to work was by making the cdrom the master on the 2nd ide and the cdrw the slave, the computer will boot up and work ok. the problem now being is that when he tried to copy disc to disc (audio, in cdrwin) its very crackly. so he tried in nero and nero came up with a warning that cdrom and cdwiter are on same ide. so my question is how do we get around this problem.
i think his motherboard was an IWILL board.
any help much appreciated, either mail me or post a reply.

A bit of a puzzle Glen. I have both my cdrom and cdrw on the secondary IDE with the cdrom as the master and no problems at all with Nero. I suppose you have already tried this combination. Just a thought, will the disks work OK if you copy first to the HDD then to the CDRW?. And you have selected the correct jumper settings?.
