upon building my computer..(1st time) when booting up, i get the os scan then it goes to windows 98 startup menu where i have three choices about the cdrom support. then, it loads a default cdrom driver, i think, and then loads windows after a bunch of pci bus scans. i have tried to load the cdrom driver numerous times through windows but that doesn't fix it. what have i done wrong? |

it sounds like you copied the startup disk to the C:drive, as opposed to issuing a SYS C: command. You're not being very clear about the problem tho - Please elaborate. |

okay, i am not too sure exactly what i did. i do remember having problems with the cdrom driver when i started loading windows 98. (i probably did copy the startup disk to the c drive-it wouldn't surprise me.) when i first loaded win98, it asked for the cdrom driver and i loaded that. but i still could not access info on the drive. i did a bunch of reloads. well, now, when i start the computer up, it goes to the windows98 startup screen and you can choose to start windows from the cd rom, start with, or without cd rom support. then when you choose, it goes through the oak cdrom driver and a bunch of other pci bus scans, then it goes right into the windows 98 screen and boots up fine..the computer runs fine and great, i just hate to go through the startup screen. if i did copy the startup disk to c: how do i fix that? can i do it without doing a clean reinstall? |

You could try deleting the startup files from C drive (if they are there) but retain command .com. If you are unable to find these files on C then I think if I were you I would format c and install windows again. Cheers, Rob |

Hello out there. I seem to be having similar problems. I did the fdisk, the format with 98 start up disk. When getting to a prompt and trying to run setup I get "drive not ready reading drive E" any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch |
