Im trying to fix a 350 amd with win 98. the problem is, when i boot up i get the replace system disk and hit any key error. the thing is there's no disk in the a drive or cd-rom. this useto happen once a month, Id reset and every thing would be fine. now its all the time and the pc is useless. please help!!!

maybe the boot sector is fubared. either that or the other hardware is the issue; either the motherboard, or the drive itself. if you can, install the drive in another computer, and see if it boots up. that will at least tell you if the drive is working properly. do you get any registry errors at all?

no registry errors. I put the a drive in my outher computer and it works fine. thinking about pulling the hard drive now and seeing if it works.

well i formated the c drive and tryed to reinstall win98 to see what error messages I would get, to help me. Right before it started loading windows files it gave me the error
"SUWIN caused an illegal instruction in module setupx.dll at 0004:323E" What is this and how do i fix it!!! please help

Pulled hdd and put it in my outher pc. Hard drive is fine. must be some kine of mother board problem. Time for another motherboard and cpu anyway. going A-bit this time. thanks for the help.

yes, when i first started using my brand m/b, i got the same errors, only because there were still bugs in it. as technology advanced, they fixed the bugs, but since it was a hardware thing, i had to upgrade the m/b...

then win98 worked. no problems, except the nut behind the keyboard. heh, i was playing with settings and blew out the processor and motherboard. oh well, had to buy a new one of each, but it still works fine.
