I run Windows 98 SE and recently I tried to record a message with the Microsoft sound recorder. The microphone sends sound through the speakers OK but I cannot record the sound. I have tried re-installing the sound card and have found no conflicts. All other sound functions perform as intended but I cannot record sounds through the microphone on any of the sound players. Is this a software or hardware problem ?. Any help appreciated. Rob |

For anyone who encounters the same problem. I had a lot of hardware hanging off this machine and although there were no reported conflicts there must have been one because when I installed W98 on an added partition all worked well. Rob |

Rob, have you tried lowering the quality of the recording? I have tried recording on an old SoundBlaster sound card before, and after talking to the tech support people, I was told that the sound card does not support a certain range of recording. Also, as unlikely as it may be, try using a different sounc card if you can, and see if it will work. The sound card that you have might just be walking out on you right now. |
