I found a pentium 200 mmx processor and a QDI P5I430TX IB motherboard from a local computer dealer that was supposedly tested by tangent. I downloaded manual and installed it as directed on an old packard bell 486 dx. I put 2 new 64 meg 66mhz dimm ram chips, and installed board. keyboard lights came on, led lights except for hd led came on. hardrive powers up but video, screen remains black. It made cont. long beeps which usually signals bad mobo or power, yet it only did this once. the fan is turning for cpu. wrong memory bad mobo? Any ideas?

If it has an AMI BIOS and your monitor is known to work, you have a memory error.

What do you mean, "as directed on an old packard bell 486 dx?" 486 documentation WILL NOT be the same, (Especially Packard Bell) not to mention they don't use the same kind of memory.

I believe it has Award bios and monitor is known good. What I meant was I downloaded the manual for the QDI P5I430TX IB mobo. I made connections to led, reset, ide, floppy, speaker etc. as described in manual.I then installed mobo in an old packard bell 486 dx computer I had. I put 2 new 64 meg 66mhz dimm ram chips. Keyboard lights came on, led lights except for hd led came on. hardrive powers up but video, screen remains black. It made cont. long beeps which usually signals bad mobo or power, yet it only did this once. the fan is turning for cpu.

I forgot to thank you for your response Trish. This site is a great idea. As a certified (sometimes Certifiable)tech it is great to get another opinion when seemingly simple jobs turn perplexing. :-)
