The answer to the first question probably lies in your cd-burning software. It probably doesn't have the right driver for your cd-r. Check with the company that wrote the software for an update. The second part is easier. The ribbon cable that connects your hard drive to your computer is evidently the old 40 pin type. The drive will still function, but it won't be able to take advantage of the ATA66 or ATA100 speeds that your motherboard supports. You can get one for five or ten bucks at any computer store. There is a possible complication here: The new 80 pin cables are usually "cable select" type. Which means that you must set your drive(s) to the cable select setting, and the master MUST go at the end of the cable. The older 40 pin types were straight through, which meant that the hard drives had to be jumpered as master or slave (or master w/ no slave). Hopefully you've got the cd and cd-r hooked up to the secondary controller. |
