Could anyone give me any advice about changing the IRQ settings for a soundcard which displays a conflict at boot up time and then operates with no problems anywhere, including device manager. I know I have to go into the BIOS but I'm not 100% sure .
Many thanks for any posts

what kind of conflict is it showing?
is it showing a setting for one irq while booting and then showing as a different irq in device manager?
you should find the irq settings in the pnp/pci configuration portion of your bios, you need to adjust the "resources controlled by" from auto to manual

to reserve a particular irq for a device using that irq, you set what the irq is assigned to.

for instance i have an isa modem on com 2 which is set to irq3.
at one time i had a device(can't remember, probably a sound card) that kept wanting to use irq3 which interfered with my modem.so i went into bios to reserve irq3 for legacy isa.

i have a sound blaster 16 pci sound card.
it is using irq 10 for windows' use
the legacy portion of the sound card is set to use irq 7 as the dos setting to play games in dos.
when in windows it isn't using irq 7
my printer port is set on irq 7

don't know if any of these ramblings help or not
