Ok here goes, i hope you can offer me some advice. I installed a 20gb HD in my machine i can use it fine but i start to get odd problems like, Windows hanging on the shutdown screen when the computer should turn its self off and the thing that is most annoying is my CD ROM drive start to 'tick over' even if there isnt a disc in the drive. Some time the computer freezes up and the LED stays on. This 20gb drive only has a few files on it, i'll be getting cable soon so i want to make use of the space. I have a 8gb HD that contains windows and all my other file. Apart from that the HD work as it should, i just get interupted by the CD rom ??!!! I hope you can offer me some advice. |

How do you have your drives setup? Do you have your 20gb as the primary slave and your 8gb as the primary master? Or do you have your 20gb as the secondary master. Just some thoughts. Do you have any kind of back-up program that may trying to access your cdrom? |

Help I have a computer that had 2k on it and I did not have the pass word. The computer was given to us so being a novice I tried to get ride of the OS I was able to get ride of it. but were it once was it has stopped access to that part of the hard drive but it still shows that 5 gig as being there how do I recover that space and wipe out any Leftovers of that OS. and retrive that space for my new OS. |

Ted, What OS were you going to put on the HD ? For WIN 95/98/ME, FDISK should allow you to delete all partitions from the drive and set them up as you want them. WIN NT, XP and (I think) 2000 should allow yow you to create/delete partitions during a new install. If you have already installed an OS, I would recommend Partition Magic or a similar utility program. FDISK will wipe out the information in any partition it touches - don't use it around on the C drive if an OS has been installed !! Good Luck. |
