Ok, first, the hardware: InWin Q500 case Asus TUA266 motherboard Pentium 3 933 Cu Alpha PAL 6035 heatsink Adaptec 2940U2 SCSI card 2 x IBM Ultrastar 18.2GB 10,000RPM Ultra 2 scsi drives SB Live! Matrox Millenium G400 Generic cd-rom Ok, the problem now...... I just built this system and it runs like . The temperature when the system is idle is around 30 c according to PCProbe. It'll have random lockups on it, and if I attempt to run the Distributed.Net RC5 client, the system temp jumps to 90 c in 2 seconds and freezes up hard. It looks like a heat problem.. But how? The ALPHA PAL 6035 is a huge heatsink/fan combo and there's also 4 case fans pumping heat out. Any ideas? |

Are you using a heatsink compound on the chip? Make sure the heatsink is barely touching the chip and should be parallel to the CPU. If it's off by a little it will make a difference. |

Just a thought, it may be worth your time to check that your processor multipliers are set correctly (if you are using them). If you are over clocking incorrectly that can cause a lot of heat. |
