what kind of system does she have?
whats in it?
has she added any new hardware just before this problem started happening?
what is she doing when it shuts down?
goes crazy how?
shutting down could be heat related or insufficient power supply.
have you checked for irq conflicts concerning the mouse?

some thoughts

I have a similar problem. I shutdown compaq laptop as usual with the start/shutdown menu bar. it became stuck and I unplugged the computer. It will now not start at all, it just beeps me 1 short beep, three fast beeps (twice) and the screen remains black.
any thoughts?
thanks,
Johnnathan
