my roomate thinks i cannot "break"any important hardware in his computer.i told him i am sure there are certain things a person could do to literally break hardware and make it look like wear and tear on the computer.am i right? if i am, give me some examples please.thankyou

You could remove some fans + heatsinks from somewhere and run the computer (just say it fell of - this actually happened to a friend of mine!)... this will probs make the stuff under the fan melt... did u mean st like this?
