I just bought a used 3.3GB Maxtor hard drive and set it up as master and installed Win 98.....No problems. It worked like a charm. I then decided to keep my original drive as master and set up the new one as a slave. The bios finds it Ok as slave and machine boots but Windows does not find it at all. I have tried all possible jumper combinations and even tried on another newer computer but with same results. This is a new one on me and I hope someone can help. Thanks |

you probably checked this ,but i'll ask anyway. is the original drive set up for use as single drive? in the 3.3 gb is the partition still set as active? i don't know what the results of that scenario would be.would the system make it past post? i'll have to try that sometime to find out for myself. anyone else know? |

Vera is probably correct. You may need to fdisk and reformat the Maxtor, I have had problems with running 2 hard drives on the same IDE channel as master/slave with both drives being bootable to the same O.S. If you want to verify the drive in windows shutdown and connect the Maxtor 3.3 to the 2nd IDE channel as a master let the bios detect it and boot up normally. Than check control panel device manager or my computer to see if the drive shows up. |
