i want to run scandisk it will go then it tells me to close some running programs it has restarted ten times it said how do i fix this. |

hi try pressing ctrl+alt+del close all programs running in the background except systray and explorer. |

Try a fresh reboot, and then do the scandisk. If it still does not work, bootup in safe mode and do it again (Press F8 at start of computer, after the device search, to get to the options). If it still does not work, assuming that you are running Windows 98 or earlier, boot up to command prompt only, go to WINDOWS>COMMAND, and type SCANDISK. If that still does not work....... |

Try turning off your screensaver. |

why do i always forget about that screensaver.... oh i know i don't use a screen saver. i set my systems to shut off monitor after 10 min. idle time. having screen savers running just consumes more energy and storing screen savers wastes harddrive space. |

Valarie had the same problem myself.it could be your harddrive is done.or there could be a loose wire going into your hard drive. anyways try a new hard drive and let me know how you did. |

It will be programes running in background. If you do as first person suggested control+alt+del and then close down each prog thats running in the box that opens except explorer and sys tray then run scan disc it will do a complete scan of disc |
