I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer (DeskJet 500c) drivers and the scanner (Umax Astra 1220p) drivers too but nothing seems to work. Windows 98 doesnt find it. |

did the scanner ever work in your system?is your printer detected and working on the lpt1 port? are your printer and scanner daisy chained?my parallel scanner needs to be turned on before windows boots up or it won't be detected don't know if same holds true for yours. have you tried disconnecting printer and scanner. removing all software associated with your printer and scanner and any entries for them in safe mode device manager.delete entries for lpt1 and parallel under ports heading while still in safe mode device manager. reboot and first re-install lpt1. make sure parallel is set up for (bi-directional, epp,ecp whatever your manual states) in bios. then go to re-install scanner and printer in the order they are attached. mine is scanner first then printer to scanner
