ok, this is it, i have my own pet idea's but .. 3 pc's , 2 running 98 one running ME with a cable internet connection, called into setup ICS on the ME machine, installed Nic's setup workgroup name and comp names, all three can see each other, can read and write to each other, BUT, when i used ME's ICS wizard to share the net connection, no go, IE sits there trying to find 192.168.0.1 ( ME 's IP address,) so i tried to ping it, Hmmmm no go ... ahhhh !!, the others can ping each other, and the ME machine can ping them, but they cant ping the ME machine, ok to my knowledge , and hey i could be wrong ...something needs to explicitly Hmm, block ping for a ping not to happen, i am assuming therefore that something that was loaded onto the machine at some time in the past is blocking IP addresses, short of wiping the drive and re-installing everything, ( very embarrassing if it doesn't fix the prob) what else can i check or where can i look in the reg for things that may be blocking it ..or ? A firewall on the WinME machine can cause it. Also when setting up the ME machine for ICS a utility disk is generated for sharing with win98 machines. When setting up the ICS WinME asks if you want to make the disk for sharing on Win98 machines compatable, if this isn't used, well, you can pretty much guess the result. |

Or upgrade to Windows 2000 under which network is so much easier (in my opinion). |
