Hello all: I recently put new RAM (a 128 meg pc-100 chip to go along with my previous 64 megs)in my computer and have encountered a problem. A high pitched whine starts without warning! The computer still seems to be working but the sound is so loud that I have to shut down. When I try to shut down, the sound persists. Bad memory? It is being detected at start up. |

Have you tried removing the new module to see if the whine is still there? I have known of a "going" power supply and also a cracked fan on the CPU to create the kind of noise you describe. Just a few thoughts. |
