My CDROM was working fine up until a couple of days ago, when it refused to read any CDs I put in. Everything else is fine, the computer recognizes that the CDROM is there, and it was working, but it doesn't do anything when i pop a CD in there. I tried go into Control Panel and remove the Cdrom so windows can detect it the next time it booted up, it detected the CDROM and placed in My computer, but it still cannot read any CDs that i put in there. Does anyone know what's going on? |

Best try swapping it with another to make sure it isn't software related, but I would guess it's dead or at the very least dirty. |

i don't think it's dead, it moves the tray in and out when i push the eject button. It's probably dirty then. What should do i do to clean it? |

Does the disk spin when you put it in? More than likely it's not detecting a disk in the drive. You can try blowing out any dust or fuzz with canned air found at most office supply stores or computer stores. Some Walmarts carry the stuff as well. |

the light goes on only once when i put in the CD, then it stops trying to detect the disk. I don't think it's recognizing the disk, or thinks that there are no disks there. I tried various CDs, like my windows CD, a couple of games, even the AOL CD i receive once every month. |

I would say that the drive is dead at this point if it's not even attempting to read a disk. It's not worth the hassle of trying to "figure" out the problem when you can get a new unit for 30 dollars or a good used one for 10. |

Try putting a cd in the tray and double clicking the cd drive in my computer. If you are able to see the contents of the cd that you put in tray, then that means the auto run function in Windows is turned off. |
