i really have no idea what's going on with my computer. I have an intel P3 1.1ghz processor, 786mb ram, 2- 40gb HDs (quantum), nvidia tnt2 video card, sound blaster live! value sound card, US robotic 56k modem, 3com NIC, and i think that's about all that may be relevant. anyways i installed roxio adaptec easy cd creator 5.0 platinum or whatever, the one meant for windows XP. i'm (i was i should say) running windows xp professional build 2600. everything was fine. i installed that software and rebooted. on booting i got a STOP error (blue screen) regarding some partmgr.sys file. last good configuration same thing, safe mode same thing. so i tried repairing my windows installation from the windows CD. no luck there, same stop error. but now when the computer started booting windows it would beep contiuously. so i removed the old windows installation and installed a new one. since i tried this even during the setup when it was in windows it continues to beep. just one long continuous beep. I have no idea what this means and don't want to fry my computer or something. if anyone could help this would be greatly appreciated. (by e-mail is preferred) oh and the power LED on the computer is flashing as well. thanks in advance.

You didn't mention motherboard but I'm willing to bet its an alarm of some sort. Check your CPU fan, case fan etc. This usually indicates an alarm state. Just a coincidence that it happened when it did.

partmgr.sys Is the partition manager for XP and 2K I believe. If you have S.M.A.R.T. enabled check your hard drives. Quantum/Maxtor HDD might recommend it to.

turns out this happens every time i clean install XP. god knows wut it is but i'm quite sure it's not an alarm. it continues all the way through the setup until the first reboot. anyways thanks for the advice.
