I've a 52x Samsung Cd-ROM on my p3 128mb sd ram machine with Win ME as my OS.Now the problem is that when I click on the open/close button of the cd-ROM it gets stuck in between but goes inside when I push the tray with my hand. There is no problem with the cd-ROM when I open the tray with the open/close button. The problem arises only when I try to close the Cd-ROM.Can I solve the problem manually??Any solutions?? |

If the cdrom isn't closing all the way and you have to physically close it with force, the tray motor may be jamming or binding on it, or may just be a *dead spot* on the motor itself. |

No user servicable parts inside, replace the cdrom drive. |

Hmmm. Does the drive read ok otherwise? I'm just wondering because I have had 3 cd drives konk out on me in the last 3.5 years. They were all memorex and I won't use them anymore. They stopped reading and when cleaning them didn't work, the curious one that I am, I had to open them to see what's inside. (they were no longer under warranty, otherwise I wouldn't have opened them up)After opening this last one I hooked it up to see it work (or not work) and the cd wouldn't spin at all. Must be the motor. If I new where to get a replacement locally I would give it a shot. It doesn't look like it would be difficult. But anyway I also noticed that the tray uses a small rubber belt as part of it's assembly. I wonder if the belt in Sunnys' cd drive could be worn or stretched a bit to much and could that cause the tray closing problem? I remember reading some time ago about replacing a belt, but am unsure if it was for a cd player or a cd drive. Could the same principle apply? Vera |

Hi Vera, the belt/band issue was common on older 2X and 4X Cdrom drives and a few 8X and you could in reality replace the belt with a common rubber gasket, I have many times. But since most devices are now direct drive I.E. motor to gear or rail replacement parts are practically impossible to find. Thus, the *Throw Away* society. |
