Ok, anyone EVER come across why Windows 98/ME/2000/et all will decide to exclamation mark its primary/secondary IDE controllers and losing, for example, your cdrom/harddisk/whatever. The only way to correct this is to reinstall windows, 80% of the time. In rare cases, playing about with BIOS settings will help solve the problem. Even replacing the driver for an incorrect one, rebooting, then putting the _proper_ one back in ONCE solved it. |

HI Yes a number of times. The hard disk controllers need re-installing. Win 98 can usually handle those drivers or the disk that came with your motherboard or the motherboard manufacturers website in support, downloads. Once you have them, store them on your harddrive or floppydisk in the event it happens again, cause you know you can't access your cd drive. You don't need to re-install windows to correct this problem. Vera |
