I am looking for a larger hard drive and would like to know who the best manufacturer out there is. (Who makes the best Hard Drive) Also how long can I expect my hard drive to last?

That question will probably lead to many opinions, but my own personal choices are Seagate and Western Digital for reliability, Maxtor and IBM for speed vs. reliability (I've sent alot back in the past 1.5 years mostly IBM 60 GXP's. Maxtor bought up Quantum and all Quantum stock so be careful there if looking at Maxtor's.

I also prefer WD and seagate, but I've heard from a few people that IBM has made quite a turnaround in the past year or two.
I've had more bad luck with Maxtor than any other brand.

Just my two cents.....

To add to the confusion, I have heard quite the opposite. Almost all pros I come across hate Westurn Digital and say they are the worst for reliability.

Seagate is probably the best. I choose Maxtor. As far as I have heard they do the job ok, and I have not had problems so far.
