Right after I tried adding more RAM (2 extra 16 MB Simm sticks), my computer hasn't booted up since. I figured it was because I added more so I took the two sticks away and just kept my originals. I noticed the computer beeps change depending on how I arrange the sticks. Once it was a continuous blinking beep of five (I know the motherboard didnt like that, so I changed the position and now it is one long beep and 3 short ones. (some say this means a keyboard error but I doubt this) To add to the confusion my screen says override DPMS. Anyone know how to override the DPMS when the screen is black and wont do anything? I am a novice at computers and this was my first time touching the ram. Im afraid I might have damaged something. please help. Thanks |

it's in the bios, there's a setting there in the power management section, you set the video off method to V/H SYNC+BLANK. that should take care of that problem. you don't say what brand computer or motherboard though, so, just a generic way to get to the bios, hit del key you get to the bios screen when it checks memory. use the + and - keys to change the setting, use the arrow keys to navigate then save your settings and it will reboot. |

When the computer experiences any jerks or sudden movements, the screen becomes blank with DPMS GOING TO OFF MODE. It then turns itself off. Help |
