I reformatted an old computer(Intel Celeron 366MHz) and reinstalled Windows 98 planning to use it for keeping records. My problem is that Windows didn't find a driver for the video card (Joytech VGA RZXA 8SDJ). I found the driver on driverguide and downloaded it but I must have screwed up somewhere trying to install it. Now when I go to System Properties/device manager/display it says NVidia RIVA 128/128ZX. If I right click and click remove, the computer hangs and I have to restart. Is there another way to remove that display adapter or is there anything else I can try?

I hope this makes sense. As you can tell, I'm new at this and am trying to learn as I go. I hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

if you uninstall the software from add/remove programs, if it's there, that is, do that, then you have to delete the riva files off the drive, if nothing else, delete the .inf install setup file. that will do it. you can go into the registry as well, and delete that stuff, but it isn't always necessary.

Thanks for the reply.

I uninstalled it from add/remove programs and deleted the .inf install setup file, but I'm not sure how to go about deleting the riva files from the drive.

You can also change the display to plain PCI VGA to setup for a new driver install, this should take care of the offending zx drivers as well, I did a little research on joytech VGA and 2 cards are listed, 1 is the Riva 128ZX and the other is an Intel I740 both have the /S8DJ after the model number. Make sure the drivers you select are for the video card you have. http://www.pionex.com/drivers/pdriver.asp?category=VIDEO about 1/2 the way down for the ZX and 2/3 down for the I740 or referance drivers at http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?strState=LIVE&ProductID=76&DwnldID=2907 for the I740 and check the readme file

Assuming your motherboard has the Intel LX chipset you might want to download updated drivers for it as well.
