i have bought a computer as seperate components and put it together... kt7a motherboard 1gig athlon cpu 512mb ram asus v7700 32mb ddr pure graphics card when booting it does one long, then 2 short beeps. this is followed by a pause (about 10 secs) it then does about 8 quick beeps, pauses for few seconds, another 8... repeats this about 10 times. then i turn it on and it boots... i have been trying to install windows xp but i get the error message (E:\I386\asms.ErrorMessage: Incorrect Function) i looked up the beepcodes on the net and found the 1 long and two short to mean video adapter error. I sent the video card back, got a new one but still had the same problem... i then sent the motherboard back, got a new one and still the same problem... any ideas??? |

You may need to go into the bios and setup failsafe mode or default in the bios, the beep codes are telling you that something installed is disagreeing with the settings either video or memory timings also by default on some KT boards fastwrite may be enabled, disable it. As well as any bios shadowing or pallette snooping or bios cacheing. |
