I am building a new system with the ECS EliteGroup Motherboard w/ SIS 735 chipset, and 1.2 Ghz AMD. I started out using the PCI video card from my old computer, no problems. When I added the PCI 56K Creative Modem to the system and rebooted, there was no display on monitor. I had to remove the modem and reboot twice for my display to return. I thought maybe it had something to do with the PCI card so I tried a newer AGP 16MB Nvidia video card and had the same problem. I looked for hardware conflicts and there doesn't seem to be any, however, I noticed that alot of things are using IRQ 11 which is what the Nvidia card says is best for the video card. That card was assigned to IRQ 5 and works fine there. The problem only happens when I add the modem. Any ideas what the problem could be? Could it be the chipset? I know at least one PCI slot works because the older video card worked fine in one. I used the same slot for the modem when I tried using the AGP video card, but no video display. I tried other PCI slots too for modem, but no luck. Thanks, Jack |

I had similar trouble with an ESS Teledrive 56k PCI modem and a SiS 530 chipset Motherboard it was definatly a problem with IRQ's and PCI steering. A different chipset Modem (Lucent I think) took care of it. |
