Hi there, First of all let me apologize if I don't give enough information. I am new at this and am not sure how much info will be needed. I just installed an Actima 16X DVD Rom drive in addition to my 52X CD Rom that came with my 733 Gigapro computer. I think I got everything hooked up right, but now my computer doesn't see either one! They are both set as slaves on the same 40 pin ide drive cable. help!!!!!! I can't decide if I am totally fearless or just crazy for doing this (at least attempting to do it) I know I must have something hooked up wrong. I checked my instructions that came with the DVD and have cross refrenced with my Norton's complete guide to PC Upgrades (2nd edition). Norton is talking about a DVD decoder bar. I must not have one, or if I do I don't know about it cause I don't even know what the heck a decoder bar is. Do I need one? Can anyone help me? PLEASE??? |

the problem is that one needs to be set as master drive in the order it is in on the cable. leave the other as a slave. eg: the middle connection (40 pin) needs to be on the master, and the terminated (40 pin) connector, is the slave. change the jumper accordingly for the appropriate drive. i'd make the cd rom drive the master and the dvd rom drive the slave. |

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am going to try that as soon as I log off and shut down. I'll let you know if it works. It makes sense to me, but what the heck do I know :>) |

It Worked !! My computer not only found the cd rom and the dvd they actually work now. If I may ask one more question. The sound card cable is set with red wire on the right from the mother board, but it looks like I am putting it in upside down on the cd & dvd if i set it with the red wire on the right. The contacts are on top. Is that right, or should the contacts be on the bottom (with the red wire on the left)? |

Look at the sound cable end carefully it should be molded so that it will only plug in one way. |

Hi Kevin, I thought it would only go in one way, but this one will go in either way. I am goin to turn it around and see if that makes a difference. thank you once again for all your help. I truly appreciate it. Slowly but surely I am learning my way around the insides of a computer. |
