I recently obtained an old Compaq 486 for Parts. It had a working Seagate 2 Gig HDD. I am able to FDisk and Format it, But when it comes to Setting up a new OS I get I/O errors . Is this HDD configured differently for Compaq ??, it rings a bell somewhere. Can I get around it?.

Thanks for any informed feedback

Could be various things.

What are the I/O errors? What OS? What model is the old Compaq 486? Have you tried getting info about that system? Try http://www.radioshack.com/ProdSupport/DocumentDetail/DocumentDetailIndex.asp?P=support_computer&D=46838&T=htm

What are you trying to set it up on? I've seen this with HP's.

Did you do the fdisk and reformat on the computer you are trying to do the install?
