OK....
Athlon 1ghz 526 mem
Running win2k... all updates sp2 etc
Hitachi dvd player... working fine
Latest via 4-1 drivers
Nero latest update
Problem is...
Have a lite-on 16x10x40 with latest firmware
It works fine on my other pc amd 500 128mem all software as above
But not wokk on the athlon
Insert any disk music/app it just hangs not spinning fast as if it is reading
try to open my computer it freezes
Eject the disk my computer works fine
Have changed cables made it a master/slave
Could it be a bios setting?
Motherboard?
any help please

I would boot into safe mode remove the cd writer and reboot letting windows find it again.
If the cd writer is on its own ide connection then it should be set to master. If shared with a hard drive then it should be set to slave. Also you might want to try another cable. |

i noticed you have 526 megs ram. is that inclusive of all memory? a stick of ram of that nature is 512 + a bit more.even with other ram unless i'm not getting it right, i'd double check the seating of the ram and go into bios setup as well and double check it |

back again
have tryed removing in safe mode and changing from master to slave. the config at the moment is
dvd master lite-on as slave. still no joy im afraid. also have changed the cable ribbon.
sorry the memory is 512 2 sticks 128 each 133mgz
any other ideas please ?
