The problem originated when I unhooked my digital camera from the USB port without first turning the camera off. My computer had a serious crash. A burnt smell came from my tower. I tried reformatting the harddrive and reloading Windows 98. The reload of Windows stops at checking for hardware. I know I have a fried piece of hardware, but how do I figure out what piece of hardware I need to replace? |

pull everything out except the video card. try booting up then. see if you can see signs of smoke on any components first before trying anything. if it's the motheboard, it's a good chance that the cpu may be fried as well. |

With everything pulled out but the video card, I can boot up in safe mode, but if I try to boot up the normal way, I get a blue screen. |
