system is:

300W FULL TOWER(PSU NOW UPGRADED)
AMD 1700+ XP PRCSSR
ABIT KG7 MOBO
256 DDR(PC21OO)
2X 20GB 5,400 HD
ATI RADEON 7500
56X CDROM
OEM FLPY
WIN XP PRO

Problem is that if i power down for a length of time the pc will not power back up.It turns off after 2 secs,so screen not displaying anything. If i hold in reset eventually it boots fine,no probs.
I was 99.9% convinced after having asked around a bit, that it was a pwr supply prob .I bought a MACRON 400W ATX,AMD/INTEL approved psu.
The problem still remains,oh earthing seems fine.I have checked the polarity of the mobo/pwr switch connections.
It appears that the power is ok as all fans start and there is activity at the HD and floppy/cdrom leds.I think the prob could be linked to the HD'S like they aren't starting up quick enough, repeatidly reseting causes them eventually to start, but by this time they would assumingly have already started to pick up speed? They are both identical, both brand new 20gb seagate 5,4oo.I appreciate that 7200 would be quicker, but i feel the 7 or 8 msec difference in start up would not be noticable and certainly not improve the prob i have.

Please help someone, this prob is annoying me!
It's got to be something simple,so what is it!?

Turn off nay power monitoring setting or hiberation, etc. to at least get that out of the picture. Some h/w and these setting don't work or casue problems as you experienced. While it may not be it, it should be disabled. Next, it seems mtrbds. have power awake ckts. whcih after a time fail or degrade and if that's the case, only replacing the mtrbd. will help. Review any power setting in the bios in windows and disable one at a time or all to see if the problem goes away.

good luck -----Willy
