Ok, here's the deal....I've had a Microtek Scanmaker II scanner for almost 8 years. The scanner works fine, but as I've been upgradding windows constantly...I've had many problems. When I changed from Windoes 3.1 to 95, my computer could no longer find the scanner, unless I manually looked for the scanner drivers and reinstalled them everytime I wanted to use my scanner. Then with windows 98, my computer once again could not detect it...untill I installed the OLD OLD version of Adobe Photoshop LE (it came with the scanner when I first bought it), after that it worked fine. Then when I installed Windows ME, I didn't even have to install the old version of Photoshop, or reinstall the drivers...ME automatically found it, and I had no problems. Now that I've upgraded to XP all of my old tricks don't work...and I have no clue what to do. I've downloaded ALL the drivers from the microtek website, I've tried almost everything...the only thing I haven't tried is the thing that works...and I don't know what that thing is. Can someone PLEASE help me out??

question: this system has been upgraded all this time with no re-installs at all? or has this been wiped clean and then upgraded? i'm just trying to discount old vxd's, registry entries, .dll's, that sort of thing before i go further. another thing to consider, is that windows xp will not work with some older devices which means you'll have to buy a newer scanner to get it to work, however, i'd check with the manufacturer to see if they have drivers to work with xp.

oh, i almost forgot, if you can give me the model number as it's printed on the scanner, i can try to look it up myself which will help me dig.

http://www.support.microtek.com/~admin/windows_xp_landing_page.htm

however. this page doesn't guarantee whether ALL scanners they make will work using those instructions. it just says it'll work (possibly). big difference. methinks you will have to get the latest software and do some steps to determine this.
