Hope someone can help me with this. For some reason my computer has changed its color display settings to 16 colors instead of the usual 256 colors. I have tried numerous times to change the settings but keep getting the message "adapter type is incorrect or current settings do not work with your hardware". Thanks for any help anyone can shed on this problem. (have to confess I am clueless on computers so keep it simple, please, lol). I have also scanned for viruses and found none,if that matters.

You probably need to re-install the video drivers. Make sure, too, that the correct monitor type has been installed in device manager.

trying to enable my modem, I disabled COM1 which is where the monitor was enabled - I didn't know until monitor failed to work. How can I enable COM1 again without getting to my OS - through BIOS?
