Hello, I am currently teaching an A+ plus class. My question relates to Hard drive controllers. On Modern Motherboards (1998-2002)where is the Physical location of a Hard drive controller, is it on the Motherboard (as in ATA 33,66,100 and 133) or are these controllers on the Hard drive itself. Thankyou, Philip. |

What you are refering to is an ide controller and there are two and both are on the motherboard. The controllers handle not only hard drives, but dvd drives,cd-rom drives, cdrw drives etc. In the early days before there was a standard set, hard drives and the like came with their own contoller card that plugged into the motherboard. Just the same as modem cards and sound cards do today. Cd-rom drives plugged into the sound card. |
