I have the above mentioned scanner and it worked fine up till around a month and a half ago. It now does not recognize the software, thus it will not scan anything. I have done the following to try and get it to work again: Uninstalled and re-installed the software which accompanied the scanner, unplugged the scanner after I deleted the software so that the computer would add new device, and now I am completely stuck and confused as to why it will not work???!! Could someone help me out with this please?? |

What happened when you removed the software and plugged the scanner back in? |

It detected the scanner, but when I tried to use it with just the scan button, it gave me an error. |

Did it load all the software and drivers? |

All but one. When it got to a certain point, it stated that it could not load a particular portion of the software. I will get this error message and put it in my next message. |

Go to the net and see if you can find updated software for the scanner. |

I did that as well.. In fact, after I downloaded it, it continued to give me the error that the scanner software can not be found (or something to that extent). |

When installing a usb device some require that the software be installed first. Others require plugging in the device first then you must give it the correct path to the software. Have you tried both? |

That may be just the case Cecil.. When trying to use the scanner via pressing one of the buttons on the scanner an error reads "error opening usb/scan device. Now the only question is what I should do first... or try both?? |

Ok.. I dumped everything software wise for the scanner and when I was downloading the software from the cdrom I got the following message: _ins5576 has caused an error in _ins5576_mp. _ins5576 will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer. (Did this.. done this numerous times). Secondly, I tried to scan something after I downloaded the software and received the above mentioned message. Anyway, I got this message through the program I was using: Read image data failure. Please re-start the scanner. (Which would be easy to do if the scanner had an On/Off button..it doesn't). Code [ffff:0024]. I just don't know. I am pulling my hair out trying to get this thing to work! What the heck is a _ins5576_mp????? |

It sounds like a software problem. I would use the new software that you downloaded. First thing remove all software and unplug the scanner. Reboot the computer. Plug the scanner back in. Win98 then says found new hardware and is installing the drivers. Next it will display a screen looking for the drivers. Click NEXT until you get to a window that shows floppy disk drive, cd-rom,etc. Uncheck floppy disk drive and check SPECIFY A LOCATION then press browse. Locate the new software and then click ok. Most software that you download comes zipped up or in a self extracting exe. You will have expand the file first before it's usable. |

OK.. I did all that you stated in your last response, but as soon as I open a software program that I have used before the scanner decided to not to work, I continue to get an error stating that the computer can not find the scanner or scanner software/files. It is like the computer can not recognize the path to the software to get the scanner to work or something. |

Did the computer install the scanner? If so, you will have to open the software your using and assign the scanner before it can be used. |
