My system is ABit KX7 333 motherboard(VIA chipset),Athalon 2100, Creative Geforce4 MX420 and Creative 4.1 soundcard with 256mb ddr ram and Windows XP Pro. When I run any games, especially F1 GP4, Colin McRae rally2 etc I get frames "Freezing". The same happened on my previous system. (the only thing common to both systems is my hard-drive and operating system)I've installed all the latest drivers including the VIA 4 in 1, checked my bios etc. There are no conflicts yet if I disable the soundcard eveything is ok ! Anybody help me please ?

I have run into this problem more than a few times. Try the sound card in another free slot if possible, Sounds like you have a share problem with IRQ's between the sound and some other device.

Thanks ES - I've tried that and no joy. System Info shows there are no conflicts yet it looks like you suggest! Soundcard is IRQ 10 and Video is IRQ 11.

Anything else sharing IRQ 10 or 11 in Windows? USB perhaps.

No - they're on their own - USB is IRQ 5. I'm going to try all permutations of slots for the soundcard/modem tomorrow - I'll post up the results (and keep my fingers crossed!) Cheers.
