hi. I bought an Elite pc from ubid. (Not impressed with it btw.)It is an AMD 2000+ with onboard everything, running Win XP, which I don't know much about, with 256 ram. My girl uses it for online stuff, downloading music and pics. Today the sound became distorted when playing music from mp3's or cd's. Game music still sounds fine. It is distorted in Musicmatch jukebox, and in the windows media player. Is there a way for her media files to have become corrupt? She downloads alot from Kazaa. I have PC-cillin on her pc and on mine, which is the gateway out. Ran virus check, came out clean. Don't think it's sound card as game music is fine. System shows no conflicts. Only prob is with her downloaded music and that which she rips from cd's. Could it be something with win xp? Btw, her music files are in 2 different folders, but both don't play right. Any thoughts? Thank you for any ideas. Shane

I doubt if it's your mp3's giving you a problem. Sounds like it might be the software for the sound card. Since the sound card is on the motherboard, you should have a motherboard cd-rom that came with the system. The cd-rom will have the sound drivers on it. I would go to CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM and remove the sound card software and reinstall it.

Are there different drivers that run game sound as opposed to mp3's? Her game music and sounds are still ok but the music from mp3's is distorted. They are the ONLY sounds that are distorted, that i can find anyway. Game music and sounds are fine. I can try the sound drivers if need be but with this win xp, i don't like fooling around with things. XP seems to be very arrogant in it's ideas of what is right. So drivers are the only suggestion? Thanks Shane
