Hi. I have an old Epson pc, 75 mhz with an 850 mg Hd. I would like to use this for my old dos games. My problem is that this pc came with a recovery disk. When i try to format the hd, it cancels the format. (format terminated, it says) (even with the recovery cd) I don't really want to use the recovery cd anyway, as it adds alot of unnecessary crap. there is 500 MB taken up by Epson stuff. I wanted to take it down to dos 6.1 and just leave it there, or perhaps with win 3.1. Any ideas on how to get past this recovery cd stuff? (it loads win 95 btw) At the dos prompt, format won't work, even with a boot disk. Isn't a major deal but would like to learn how if anyone knows. Thanks for any help.

Go to http://bootdisk.com and get a dos boot disk. You should be able to format the hard drive then.

Tried the boot disk before asking here, and bootdisk.com is where i got it. When it boots and i run format c:, it starts, says all data will be lost!, i say ok, then it works for a moment then terminates the format with no explaination. Seems like it is something with that recovery crap. Dunno for sure tho.

Type fdisk at the A: prompt. Remove all partitions if need be (look at number 4 to see partitions) and then repartition the drive.
NOTE: when ask, do you wish to enable large disk support type NO.

Ok I'll try that. Thank you for taking time to answer me Cecil. It might be a little while before I get back to this, as school starts again on the 13th, but I'll let you know if this works. Right now I am gonna upgrade my main pc video to a GeForce4 Ti 4200-SE! (couldn't afford radeon 9700)but what the hell, I am happy! So anyway thanks again. Shane
