I have a Compaq Presario 7471, 500 Mhz AMD K6, 128 Mb RAM, running Windows 2000. This model originally came with an ESS Allegro on-board sound card. I recently purchased a SoundBlaster Live! sound card, but windows does not detect the card. I have tried disabling the current sound card before installing the new one, but no luck. The manuals that came with the computer don't discuss this issue, and the Compaq support website was not helpful. This model also came with on-board video, but I was able to add an expansion card with no trouble (no jumpers or bios revisions). Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks. |

You can disable the onboard sound card in CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\SOUND,VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS. Highlight the sound card and click on properties then click on disable. Windows should see the new sound card on bootup. |
