While downloading something from last night, my external USB hard drive just shut down (the grren power light went out). Several restarts and while i got the power light back on, the drive was not being recognized as the 'F' drive that it has been for over a year. This morning, i turned my computer on and was detected and all seemed fine after i did a system restore back a few days. I could access the drive, then all of a sudden it happened again. I have been able to get a power light on now and then, but that seems to go on and off by itself every few minutes.
I did a virus check, unplugged everything, reinstalled the USB Bridge Controller and still nothing. I am hopeful the info is still on the drive (as i had seen it this morning). I am wondering if maybe it's a bad USB cable or a power cord?
Any ideas? thanks
E.S.

Check your power pack assuming the USB Harddrive is powered externally it may be a bad connection either at the plug in to the drive or the power pack itself. I had one overheat and this caused intermittent power issues.
