I have just installed WindowsXP on my computer but now whenever I turn computer off I have no medem when I reboot. On entering Control panel/modem/properties it says "modem not installed". When I select "add" it says "cant find modem" but back in properties it now says modem installed and all works OK.
Anyone with any ideas appreciated.
thanks
Rob

What type modem is it(Serial EXT, USB, PCI, ISA)If its a USB powering down and powering up means losing the modem and then redetecting the modem as most are powered via the USB Port and is completely normal (but annoying none the less). If it is a Serial external modem try it in the other comport. If it is an ISA Hardware based modem sometimes you have to hard set the com port on the modem to use com 2 as for some reason WinXp likes to setup a normal plug and play ISA modem on Com1 even if Com1 isn't available I.E. the mainboard Com1.
If it is a Winmodem or PCI based hardware modem check that it isn't sharing an IRQ with anything such as a soundcard or Videocard.
